Below are our best practices to help you protect and maintain your investment.

General Care Guidelines

  • Remove your jewelry during high-impact activities, including working out, swimming, cleaning, or manual labor.

  • Avoid direct contact with harsh chemicals, including perfumes, hair sprays, chlorine, bleach, and household cleaners.

  • Store your pieces separately in a soft-lined box or pouch to avoid scratches and tangling.

Cleaning Recommendations

  • Soak your jewelry in warm water with a mild dish soap for a few minutes, then gently scrub with a soft toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a clean cloth.

  • For pieces with emeralds, opals, or other softer stones, avoid soaking and instead use a damp cloth with gentle wiping.

  • For a deeper clean, we recommend periodic professional cleanings and inspections.

Metal-Specific Tips

10K, 14K, 18K Gold
Gold is durable but can still scratch with wear. Regular cleaning will maintain its shine. White gold may require rhodium re-plating over time to maintain its bright finish.

Platinum
Platinum is extremely strong and naturally hypoallergenic. It develops a soft patina over time, which many clients embrace. It can also be professionally polished to restore its original luster.

Gemstone Care

Diamonds (Natural & Lab-Grown)
Diamonds are the hardest gemstone but can still be chipped by direct impact. Clean regularly and avoid harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners if the piece includes other delicate stones.

Sapphires & Rubies
Durable and ideal for everyday wear, but still benefit from regular cleaning and careful handling. Avoid extreme heat or sudden temperature changes.

Emeralds
Softer and more porous than other gems. Do not soak emerald jewelry or use ultrasonic cleaners. Clean gently with a soft, damp cloth and avoid pressure or heat.

Topaz, Amethyst, and Other Semi-Precious Stones
These stones can be more delicate. Clean with warm soapy water only and store carefully to avoid scratches or damage from harder stones.

All SDG Private Client pieces include complimentary lifetime inspections, cleanings, and stone tightening. We recommend an annual check-up to ensure your settings remain secure and your piece continues to perform beautifully.
